The Estimating Engineer is a key player in estimating competitively to successfully win projects whilst considering capacity planning parameters and capabilities within the existing machine shop.
The Estimating Engineer must ensure that all RFQ’s are dealt within the correct timeframe with a comprehensive cost-effective quote for both internal and external use.
The Estimating Engineer will:
- Interpret engineering blueprints, specifications and other data to prepare accurate time, cost, material and labour estimates to successfully bid and win projects
- Ensure customer requirements are fully understood and the most cost-effective solution is captured and quoted
- Accurately calculate machining times across multi axis milling facilities
- Pre and post contract review, ensuring new parts and products have been manufactured within budget
- Providing expert guidance to programme account managers and production functions on detailed project parameters
The ideal Estimating Engineer will have:
- Minimum 5 years time served, HND or equivalent qualification in manufacturing, with proven experience in a similar sales estimating role within the precision engineering sector
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to deal directly with customers and suppliers ensuring responses are produced in a timely manner
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Computer literacy with strong Microsoft Office skills and experience of using an ERP / MRP system with a complete understanding of manufacturing routes
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO9001 and AS9100
- Strong understanding of machining processes on a variety of materials/substrates.
This role would suit an experienced Sales Engineer who has an in depth understanding of Multi-Axis CNC machining, including full simultaneous 5-Axis milling and Mill / Turn machining of complex components for the Aerospace, Defence, Automotive and Motorsport industries.
